    New guy needs advice

    Hi all,
My first time on here. I have been pulling my hair out trying to get my tractor running. It is a ingersoll 6018 loader with a backhoe. It has an onan p218 I just freshened up with rings and seals. Just got a new battery. I have a large voltage drop when cranking. I can barely see any spark. Starter is genuine onan and is good. coil tests good. Ignition module tests good. new plugs, good plug wires. cleaned battery cables and they ohm out good. Engine cranks slowly even with new battery and on the charger. Question, I just noticed the hour meter is ticking when the keyswitch is on and never noticed this before. Is this normal?

The earlier hour meters ran anytime that the key was on, later they were changed to only record when charging system voltage was present. My first question would be whether the engine turned freely by hand after the rings were replaced?

    Frankie,

    Welcome to the club.

The first question that comes to mind is everything hydraulic disengaged?
If it is not it will create back pressure and crank very hard if at all.

I don't not have a back hoe, but if the pto valve is engaged on a gt they act the way you describe.

Others will be along shortly that have BH experience.

Good luck and thanks for joining.
    Jim

    Frankie:

We need some additional info to help isolate your problem.

    1) Is the 6018 new to you?
    2) Did it run before the Onan refresh?
    3) Are you familiar with the Ingersoll hydraulic system (positive displacement pump)?
    4) Are the backhoe controls in the neutral position?
    5) Is the 2-speed transaxle in the neutral position?
    6) Other than the engine refresh, have you done ANYTHING else to the machine (hydraulic system)?

    Hi,
my 6018 is not new to me per say. Had it for about five years but its my first tractor. I drove the tractor into my driveway (was running good) to repair a backhoe cylinder leak. All things went down the shitter (can I say that?) from there. Dual stage hydraulic pump blew. rebuilt it. replaced many hydraulic lines and rebuilt cylinders. backhoe controls are in the neutral position and entire backhoe is currently looped out.transaxle is in gear but forward reverse lever is in neutral. I can spin engine and pump by hand on the flywheel. I will try pulling the love joy coupler to see if it starts then. it did run until the pump blew.

Thanks to all that replied to my post. You answered fast. Please be patient with me I am a bit slower then most due to some disabilities. I do have education and skills but now I have a hard time learning new things and I screw up a lot , not to mention injure myself fairly often. Anyway thanks and I will get pictures and post results next time I work on it
