One option for strapping down a flywheel so you can remove the center nut

Yankee Ingenuity ~ I thought I would share an inexpensive way to hold still a flywheel so the central nut can be heavily torqued for removal or installation. There is a $79 tool specifically made by Briggs & Stratton to do this. Here is my $7 version. Sharing the idea because I haven't seen anyone do this in all my research but it works using the simple, inexpensive ratchet style tie down straps that can also be used for many things around the homestead or travels.

Please note. I first measured and documented the gap between flywheel and armatures and then removed the armatures. Most of the strap torque and tightening is on the smooth portion of the flywheel. I used as little tightening on the fins as possible. Once tight I used moderate hammer strokes on the 1/2 drive breaker bar. Moderate striking for 30 seconds or so and the nut sprung loose.
