    Brushes for Starter/Generator

I just bought a 1974ish 444 today. There is no serial number plate on it but the engine serial number is 1974. This unit has a starter generator and it won't crank. I sed a remote starter on it at the solenoid and the solenoid clicks. If I turn the motor by hand while doing this it tries to crank. I removed the belt and the starter/gen will run but not very well so I pulled the starter/Gen apart and the brushes are toast. Anyone know where to get a pair. It has a Wilson remanufactured starter/gen on it.

    Hello swervn69,

The brushes for the Delco Remy starter generators are readily available, I usually just go to our local NAPA store.

My local napa store had no listings for a starter generator. Would you happen to have a part number?

Swervn, perhaps Napa availability is an issue due to your location. I've had good experiences with the following company and I believe they'll ship to Canada.

A little more than brushes and by no means trying to tell you your business but while you are in there, replacing bearings is a good idea.

I've also had good results with the starter/gen brush and bearing kits on eBay, which should also give you some shipping options.

The Napa part number is R430 from their Echlin Electrical Products line.
